This original tutorial was created by and published back in 2009. Unfortunately his demo has since gone offline and I managed to find an old copy of the source codes. People in the comments have been asking for automatic rotation between the slides and I updated the codes with this feature. So in this tutorial I am reintroducing some of Soh’s original codes on how to build this dynamic automatic rotator.

Many of the jQuery codes are easy to transport over into your own project if you can update the selectors. Also feel free to download a copy of the tutorial codes and use this demo as a template for structuring your unique image rotator. @steve @izzat Probably because image swaps before text. May be add somewhere, before swap text=”” onFinish=changeText, could that be possible? So that the text only displays when image is actually loaded? I shall, if time pops up, ty to come up with same efffect on prototype. I have used this tutorial as the basis for the ‘front page redesign’ of our companies site. I have altered the code so that the ‘thumbs’ are in the same box as the ‘main image’ and therefore you can do all kinds of fancy layering effects using transparency. Working example is under development at and the code should be visible if you want it. When I first put up my website I wanted a simple news ticker like various big sites like nba.com, espn.com and mtv.com. I found a few flash tutorials and also could easily make a flash script that I could manually update which was inconvenient. I had been looking for a css script that I could implement with wordpress and make it more automatically updated. – you can see the old flash script I used, it works and looked fine but was a pain to update. – this is the new version that your tutorial helped me make. It’s all generated by posts in wordpress, so I just add a post fill out a few fields (upload image, description) and it updates on its own without editing any code.
It works amazing and has solved something huge for me (I’m still finishing up everything but so far it does what I want it to do I’m still working on getting the auto image change to work). You could do something similar to what is done with CSS to set a navigation button as “active”. In other words, “on page load set div X as active”.
